Our mission is to conserve, protect, and restore
North America's coldwater fisheries and their watersheds.

Monthly meetings are held Sept. through May (See our online newsletter "Quiet Waters" forcurrent schedules.)  All meetings start at 6:00 P.M. We have excellent programs, guest speakers, slide shows, and conversation. Come and bring a friend.

During the past several years the Kennebec Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited (KVCTU) members have participated in Youth Education Programs through-out Central Maine, including the Waterville Boys and Girls Club, and several area schools.   Those students who participate learn fly tying (see our Photo Album Page), fly casting, conservation, and catch-and-release techniques, among other things.   KVCTU members find this to be a great opportunity to share their joy and respect for our natural resources with the next generation.  Click here to read what chapter President Kathy Scott wrote about the Lawrence High School program!

Kennebec Valley Chapter is continually looking for projects that will help to enhance and restore our once fabulous fisheries to their former glory.  This is why our chapter was one of the founding members of the Kennebec Coalition and the effort to remove the Edwards Dam on the Kennebec River in Augusta, Me. which has now been removed.  This has provided several anadramous fish species with 17 +\- extra miles of desperately needed historical spawning habitat.  This effort was in part why Trout Unlimited® (the National Organization) has seen fit to award Kennebec Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited the Year 1999 Golden Trout Award for Excellence in a Chapter.  This is the highest honor that the national organization bestows upon a chapter.

An undersized trout - promptly released

Our Rainbow Trout stocking program on the Kennebec has been so successful that the State of Maine's Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife has decided to take over that program and will hopefully expand on it.  Since 1992 our chapter has released 10,000 fish at the Shawmut Dam tail-water, many having now grown to 22 - 26 inches or better.  Our RAINBOW INITIATIVE has now become one of New England’s finest fisheries, attracting fishing tourists from all over the world.

We are also stocking a "Kids' Pond" in Fairfield so children under sixteen have a place to fish. Parents and friends over fifteen are welcome if accompanied by a child; we encourage adults to come along. While the Fairfield Pond makes a great place to explain and demonstrate the reasons behind catch and release fishing, kids may keep the fish they catch, too. Come and help us enjoy starting the next generation's fabulous fishing experiences, and help get kids out fishing!

KVCTU members develop strong, enduring friendships while working together to protect and restore Maine’s fisheries and the quality of our native wild trout and salmon habitat.  Oh, and let’s not forget the fishing.  Whether we are talking about it, dreaming of making it better, or actually doing it, you can bet we are doing some positive things with a better fishing future in mind.  Not just for ourselves, but for the next generations’ fishing as well.

You are now “officially” invited.  Come and see for yourself what KVCTU is doing for the local communities and for Maine’s fishing future.  And we’ll just bet that you have contributions and ideas that we can use, as well.
